The SDAV Hot Rod Club began as a result of many people being at a loose end when Tracey’s Speedway closed in 1964.

The Hot Rods were fortunate and had regular racing at Daylesford, Warrnambool, Point Lonsdale, Torquay and Gippsland. They flourished in this racing environment for years with the likes of Ray Welsh and others providing consistent and quality racing.

The Hot Rods began racing at Brooklyn in 1965 when it was a greyhound track, which was sold in 1966 to become Brooklyn Speedway.

In 1966 the SDAV Hot Rod Club was formed and speedway also went from daytime to night racing.

The Hot Rods have evolved over the years to become the club it is today and now utilise sprintcar equipment making it much easier to service and maintain a race car.
