Having started racing when he was just 16 years old, Russell has gained a wealth of experience and knowledge of speedway life. He has amassed 32 great years of racing expertise.

It all began one day after watching racing at Torquay Speedway with a friend.
He found a car for sale, bought it and went back the next week to race and won it.
His passion for racing had begun.

Russell then took a 30 year break to concentrate his time and effort in running his own trucking business – Ribeau Transport and help raise 2 daughters – Kali and Ebony.
1997 saw his return to Speedway and the Hot Rods and with amazing dedication is still racing to today – along side his daughter Kali Hovey – #22. He has been Vice President and committee member for the last 15 years.

He is accompanied to most race meets by his wife, Lyn Hovey, who aside from his daughter Kali, is his biggest supporter.

His favourite food is anything his lovely wife cooks for him and his favourite drink the occasional VB. Favourite sport is car racing and watching the occasional game of footy.
His biggest rival is his daughter, Kali Hovey – #22 and seeing who, out of the 2 of them, can get over the finish line first. A bit of friendly family rivalry!

His most respected competitors are Ray Welsh (RIP) and Phil Jenkins – #3.
Russell’s greatest race accomplishments include winning the feature at Daylesford, coming 3rd twice in the Vic Title and coming 2nd twice in the Ray Welsh Memorial.
His hobbies include building race motors for his daughter, Kali #22 and son in law, Shannon Meakins #84. Sponsors include Ribeau Transport, Pizza Box Norlane and Little Boot Café.
